CHICAGO IL  October 13 2022Metro Edge Development Partners, a commercial real estate development firm and minority business enterprise (MBE), is partnering with the Illinois Medical District to host a panel discussion moderated by Allyson Hansen, CEO & Executive Director of the Illinois Medical District Commission, on the healthcare inequities in communities of color. The panel will comprise Dr. Omar Lateef, President and CEO of Rush University Medical Center, Dr. Ngozi Ezike, President and CEO of Sinai Chicago, and Israel Rocha, CEO of Cook County Health.

The panel discussion, “An Inside Look At Healthcare Inequities In Communities Of Color,” will be held on Thursday, October 27th, from 4:00-6:00 pm CDT at the Chicago Center for Arts & Technology located at 1701 West 13th Street. To register for this free event, please visit medp.io/new-events.

“As we are aware, health inequities create a systematic difference in health outcomes. All of these CEOs have successfully led their organizations amidst a pandemic, some serving the most vulnerable populations in our city,” said Craig Huffman, CEO of Metro Edge. “We chose to host this panel to hear the perspectives of these leaders and expand the discussion around racial health disparities. Social Impact is in the DNA of Metro Edge and this is only the beginning.”

Metro Edge recently announced that the company secured a 75-year ground lease on a 1.97-acre parcel in the Illinois Medical District to build and operate a 21 megawatt, 184,750 square foot high-performance data center that will address the technology infrastructure needs of local and regional healthcare firms. The facility is expected to break ground in early 2023, with an opening estimated for 2024.

“COVID-19 further exposed the lack of access to quality health care in communities of color,” said Hansen. “I am pleased to moderate this panel and continue the conversation with these incredible innovators reshaping a path forward in the healthcare industry.”
